Behind the Scenes: How the Logistics Department Keeps Cargo Moving

At Intermarine, logistics is not just about moving cargo – it’s about ensuring every part of the process stays on track. The Logistics Department plays an important role in aligning customer needs with terminal operations, helping shipments stay efficient, accurate, and on schedule.

Connecting Customers and Terminals

One of the department’s core responsibilities is to act as a link between customers and the terminal. From making sure cargo is delivered safely to verifying that it’s received and stored correctly, the team’s work helps maximize vessel intake and supports smooth operations throughout the network.

Daily Involvement, Real-Time Solutions

Every day, the Logistics team tracks incoming cargo, monitors deliveries at Watco Terminal, and works directly with stevedores and truckers. When issues arise – such as delays or delivery mismatches – they step in to resolve them quickly and prevent further disruption, including avoiding truck detention charges.

They also assist with inland transport solutions when needed, helping to arrange origin-to-destination line hauls as part of Intermarine’s broader cargo services.

Supporting Customers with More Than Just Data

What sets the team apart is their focus on direct communication. Rather than limiting contact to email or online systems, they stay in close touch with customers and regularly invite them for terminal visits or host Lunch & Learn sessions. These meetings provide a better understanding of the logistics process and help build long-term working relationships.

Working Across Departments

The Logistics team collaborates closely with other departments – particularly Documentation, Sales, Line Management, and Technical. Whether it’s updating bookings, ensuring shipping instructions and mate’s receipts match, or passing on delivery details that impact vessel planning, the department works in step with others to keep everything aligned.

Learning by Doing: A Hands-On Approach to Cargo Operations

During a recent multi-shipment project, the Logistics team and one of our regional partners worked closely with the terminal to support container stuffing operations. In the early stages, our team spent significant time on site – helping identify which cargo belonged in which container and guiding teams on how to secure it properly.

By the third shipment, the process had become fully internalized by the terminal staff. What started as a hands-on collaboration developed into a smooth, independent operation – a direct result of clear coordination and on-site support.

Whatever your cargo needs – we’ll take it from here.

Logistics is just one part of how Intermarine delivers reliable service from origin to destination.
