“Mini Monsters” Return: D-Class Vessels Reinforce JSI’s Long-Term Commitment

The JSI Alliance is expanding its multipurpose (MPP) fleet with the addition of six D-Class vessels – a move that reflects the Alliance’s long-term focus on customer needs in both global and regional service segments. Five of the vessels will be owned by Harren Group, while one – MV Industrial Diamond – will operate under a long-term charter agreement.

With commissioning scheduled between July and October 2025, the first three vessels – Industrial Dolphin, Industrial Diamond, and Industrial Destiny – have already joined the fleet, with three more to follow shortly after.

Compact Power with Global Reach

At 120 meters in length, the D-Class vessels are compact by industry standards, but their capabilities position them among the most powerful in their class. Each ship is equipped with two 250 mt cranes, which can be combined for lifts of up to 500 mt. This lifting capacity – paired with a shallow draft and efficient layout – makes them ideally suited for ports with limited infrastructure or depth restrictions.

These vessels are especially valuable in regions where access is a challenge and terminal equipment is limited. Their ability to load and discharge independently allows for reliable performance, even in underdeveloped or remote locations.

A Strategic Fit for Intermarine

For Intermarine, the D-Class supports key operational goals: fleet flexibility, cargo versatility, and schedule reliability. Their dimensions make them well suited for Intermarine’s Americas Liner Service, while their lifting capacity ensures they can also serve project and breakbulk needs in global tramp trades when required.

“Adding these vessels to our fleet is about matching capability with what our customers actually need in today’s market- whether that’s a single transformer going upriver or an entire deck of mixed breakbulk,” said Richard Seeg.

While the D-Class isn’t new to the market, it is uniquely suited to Intermarine’s combination of scheduled liner services and flexible project cargo work. Their track record and technical characteristics make them a reliable addition to the fleet – and one that fits Intermarine’s long-term service strategy.

Looking Ahead

By fall 2025, all six vessels will be operational under the JSI Alliance. As they enter service, the D-Class will strengthen Intermarine’s ability to deliver efficient, dependable cargo transport throughout the Americas and beyond – particularly in ports where size, lifting capability, and independence matter most.
